Funeral Services
Why do we have a funeral service?
A funeral is an acknowledgement of the life of the person who has passed, it is their last public moment. It is a time to honour them, a time to share memories. A funeral also provides an opportunity for family and friends to gather and support one another in their grief. To show their love, their respect, to cry together, to laugh together. Sharing lessens the pain and saying goodbye is important.
Why would I choose an Independent Civil Celebrant?
An independent civil celebrant does not have any affiliation to any church or humanist organisation. They are therefore able to conduct a fitting ceremony which reflects the wishes of the deceased and their loved ones left behind. Elements of religion or spirituality may be included but equally a non religious service can also be created.
For all my funeral services I like to:-
Involve family and friends as much as possible and give you the opportunity to share your memories to ensure the funeral service is unique and individual, personal and meaningful and sensitive and loving.
Can you suggest personal touches for the funeral service?
There are many personal touches you could include. An enlarged photo at the front of where the service is taking place, a personalised poem, that special reading, an Order of Service or their favourite piece of music. Tributes, the lighting of a candle, placing a single flower on the coffin during a reflective piece of music or the release of doves or butterflies are to name just a few.
Can I include a religious element in the service?
Of course, you may wish to include a reading, or a hymn, a prayer or a blessing. Any of these are possible and I would be more than happy to help you with this if you do not already have something in mind.
Do I get to meet you before the service?
I will make contact with you within 24 hours of me receiving instructions from the Funeral Director that you wish for me to conduct the service. We will then arrange a convenient time for us to meet, wherever possible, in person. If you have made direct contact with me, of course we can arrange that convenient time, straight away.
When we meet my intention is to build a bond with you and your family. I want to listen to your stories and memories, hear your wishes. You may already have a set idea of what you would like, however, you may have no idea where to start. Together we will create a truly fitting service reflecting the character and nature of the person that has passed away whilst celebrating the life that they have lived.
I will be in contact with you after our meeting possibly on a number of occasions in order to finalise everything in readiness for the day of the service.
What services do you provide?

A service at a crematorium followed by a cremation

Grief is the last act of love we have to give to those we loved. Where there is deep grief, there was great love.
